Thorough preparation
Painting railings is an important part of home maintenance. Not only does it improve the appearance of the house, but it also protects the wood from the elements and extends its life.
Cleaning
MalerOslo always does a thorough cleaning of the railing by removing dirt, fungus, algae or other dirt that has accumulated over the years.
Check for damage
Inspection is important. We look for rot, cracks or loose parts. Any damage should be repaired before we start painting by replacing damaged wood to ensure a most lasting result possible.
Loose paint
We always make sure to scrape away loose paint flakes, then scrub the surface with fine sandpaper or a wire brush.
Masking
Masking tape and plastic are used to cover surfaces you do not want to paint, such as nearby walls or flower beds.
Choosing the type of paint and color for railings
When the preparatory work is done, it is time to choose the right paint. To paint railings outside, it is common to use outdoor wood stain or paint. This is important to include in the assessment:
Type of paint
Wood stain is great for preserving the natural look of the wood, while paint gives you more color control. We only use quality paint that is suitable for outdoor use and will protect against the weather in your area .
Color
Choose a color that suits the style of your house and the surroundings. Remember that darker colors can absorb more solar heat, while lighter colors can keep the wood cooler. We are happy to advise and tips.
Quality
By using MalerOslo, you can be sure that high-quality paint or stain is used that provides good coverage and long-lasting protection. This will save you future work and costs.
Applying paint to railings
When together with the customer we have chosen the paint type and color, it is time to start painting the railing. MalerOslo always focuses on high quality in the execution:
Correct temperature
We avoid painting in extreme heat or cold. The ideal temperature for outdoor painting is usually between 10°C and 30°C.
Using the right tool
A good brush or roller is the key to a smooth finish. Our professionals have extensive experience and know which equipment is suitable for each job.
Correct direction
By painting in the natural direction of the wood, we ensure a nice and even surface.
Two strokes
Two thin coats are better than one thick coat. We always let the first coat dry completely before applying the second. This gives better coverage and protection.
